In 1875, Scottish inventor Alexander Graham Bell constructed the first experimental telephone. A year later he transmitted the first telephone message to a colleague in a room upstairs.
The message was as follows: Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you.” But it was Thomas Edison who, in 1879, designed the first proper telephones, which were mounted on walls. It was only then that people could call each other between longer distances.
