He did not talk about evolution and metamorphosis just like that. Charles Darwin, the 19th century naturalist, had gone to the extent of forecasting the existence of `types’ of species in the future too. As per his hypothesis a moth with a long tongue measuring between 12 and 14 inches must exist in order to pollinate a particular type of orchid. This was because the orchid’s nectar producing organs lay 12 inches inside the flower. Charles Darwin was proved right when Xanthopan morganii a hawk moth matching the specification given by him was discovered years later.
