We generally associate bacteria with diseases like tuberculosis, pneumonia, whooping cough and the like. However, there are several strains of friendly bacteria that are used for various purposes. - Certain bacteria are used to produce antibiotics, some to produce drugs and some are used to synthesize vitamins.


• The presence of certain bacteria is essential for the digestive process to take place properly.


Milk is turned into curd by adding bacteria to it. The bacterium is present in the spoonful of curd added to milk for the purpose of turning it into curd.


• Bacteria also play unimportant role in the food cycle by playing the part of food for many organisms.
• Bacterias are also used in sewage treatment plants to convert the sludge present there into methane.
