Africa is an interesting and diverse continent, inhabited by an equally evolving race of people who have contributed to the colours and ethos of this continent. Such an interesting and evolving race is that of the Berbers. These people are strong and formidable and had migrated to Africa from Arabia, Persia, Rome and Greece.
In spite of accepting and fighting against political and religious beliefs, this race remained as a coherent entity. Berbers initially fought Islam, however at later dates some of them embraced it. Christianity faced the same fate. Berbers evolved their own doctrine called the Donatist doctrine that put them in direct conflict with the church.
Berbers were famous for their riding and fighting skills and became a natural and popular choice for Arab armies.
Berber people respected their women and held them in exalted position in spite of the Islamic influence.
They are found as far south as northern Nigeria and as far north as Morocco. They range in colour from dark to fair.
Some theories link the origin of these people to Libyan Amazons. Berbers were extremely independent minded and resolutely fought all acts of subversion!
Around 700 AD the Arabs were finally able to vanquish this brave and fierce tribe!
