Appreciate your hot cuppa don’t you? Say thanks to the Chinese of the 28th Century BC who are believed to have been the earliest tea drinkers in the world. The tea plant is a native of Southeast Asia. Proper written records of the use of tea date it to the 10th Century BC. It traveled from China to Europe in the 17th Century with Dutch travelers. The English took to tea like the proverbial fish take to water and became a nation of tea drinkers. The afternoon session of tea drinking became quite a ritual all over England. Later tea crossed the ocean and entered North America. However it failed to replace the Americans’ penchant for coffee, which continues to be their preferred drink till date. Here is some good news for all you tea connoisseurs: At least half of the world’s population is said to prefer tea to any other beverage!
