The famous patriot namely Sardar Bhagat Singh was sentenced to death (at the age of around 23 years), by the colonial rulers, during the freedom struggle in India and was kept in Lahore central jail. Another patriot, by name “Jatin Das”, who was also lodged in the same jail, observed “fasting unto death” (for the release of Bhagat Singh), but his purpose was not fulfilled and he lost his precious life on the 63rd day of fasting (Bhagat Singh was executed later on).
