Most Violent Volcano That ever eruptedAdded on:2/7/2008 10:25:30 PM In Geography | By: Nicky Status | Viewed: 350 times | Rated by 1 users
The most violent eruptions were (fortunately) some that happened in the far past, before people were around watching them. Some of the eruptions from large rhyolite calderas such as Yellowstone, Toba, Long Valley, and La Primavera covered thousands of square kilometers with meters of hot ash. The most recent of these was perhaps the Taupo eruption of sometime around 183 AD in New Zealand, and it was small compared to some that have happened further in the past. Probably the most violent ones that we have much record of were the 1812 eruption of Tambora and the 1883 eruption of Krakatau, both of which are in Indonesia.
